How to Send MRI or CT Files to a Doctor
How to Create an MRI or CT Archive

Why send the complete study?

Before a remote consultation, the doctor may ask for the original MRI or CT study. A radiology report or photographs of selected images are often insufficient for detailed assessment.

The disc contains the original DICOM files. They allow the doctor to review the study slice by slice, use different planes and evaluate anatomical structures in more detail.

Send imaging data only through a trusted service and share access with the intended clinic or doctor. Remove public access when the consultation is complete.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1. Open the disc

Windows

  1. Insert the disc.
  2. Open “This PC”.
  3. Double-click the disc.

macOS

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Select the disc in the sidebar.
  3. Open its contents.

Step 2. Copy all files

  1. Create a new folder on the computer.
  2. Select every file and folder on the disc.
  3. Copy them into the new folder without changing the internal structure.

Step 3. Create a ZIP archive

Windows

Right-click the folder → Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder.

macOS

Right-click the folder → Compress.

Step 4. Upload the archive

Use a trusted cloud service such as Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or another service approved by the clinic.

Step 5. Create a restricted sharing link

  1. Select Share.
  2. Enable link access only for the required period.
  3. Copy the link and test it in a private browser window.

Step 6. Send the link

Include the patient’s name, age, the joint or body area involved, the date of the study and a brief description of the problem. Do not publish the link on an open website or social network.
